An example of ‘knock-down’ furniture
Designed to be easily broken down for distribution and happily for re-upholstery too. The curves come from bending the wood - this makes for a heavy chair that was likely made before the modern foam moulding techniques of the mid-twentieth century. The chair had had at least one recover in its life but now needed a complete overhaul - the elastic webbing had degraded over time and the foam had started to break down.
The fabric chosen for the project was from Timorous Beasties - their Birdbranch Stripe velvet in sea blue.
